There are several instances in which a laser gum treatment could be beneficial. If you have gum disease, the laser can be implemented to remove bacteria and plaque that is deep in the pockets of the gum tissue. During a biopsy, the laser is used to remove tissue from the needed area. Laser gum treatment can also assist if you would like to eliminate excess gum tissue and lengthen the visible enamel for a more attractive smile. When compared to classic gum surgery, laser gum treatments are less invasive and do not require stitches.
What to Expect
Your laser gum treatment can be performed in our office. Before your procedure, Dr. Peterson will go over exactly what you should expect during the treatment process, whether you are being treated for gum disease, getting an oral biopsy, having crown lengthening, or undergoing cosmetic gum contouring. The laser minimizes the need for more invasive treatment techniques, allowing for expedited healing times.
Dr. Peterson will provide you with recovery instructions before you are discharged to go home. For gum disease treatment or crown lengthening, you may have to schedule a follow-up appointment so Dr. Peterson can assess your healing and decide if another treatment is necessary. If a biopsy was conducted, you may need to come back into our office to receive your results. If oral cancer is diagnosed, Dr. Peterson will go over your treatment options and next steps.
