Accelerated Orthodontics

Advanced Orthodontic Technology

Dr. James Peterson is continually researching the most recent technology and techniques, like Propel® devices and procedures, to provide the best, safest, and most successful orthodontic treatments for his Coppell, TX patients.

What’s Accelerated Orthodontic Treatment?

James Peterson Family & Cosmetic Dentistry provides accelerated orthodontic treatments using Propel® orthodontics, featuring innovative devices like the VPro5™, and micro-osteoperforation (MOPs) procedures using Propel® Excellerator technology for results in less time. These advanced techniques enhance treatment for patients using Invisalign® or with traditional braces, helping them achieve their smile goals faster and with fewer office visits. Other benefits include more predictable results, fewer adjustments, and greater comfort and satisfaction.

VPro5

The VPro5, an FDA-approved Class I medical device, is part of Propel’s orthodontic product lineup. It’s a mouthpiece that accelerates bone movement by creating micropulses to make aligners work better and faster, speeding up treatment time by almost 50% — which is quite significant, especially when you’re facing a year or more of treatment. The VPro5 is also less invasive than other accelerating treatments. Some patients report that the VPro5 helps ease the strain they feel with their aligners.

After you have completed your orthodontic consultation and started Invisalign treatment, you will receive a VPro5 device to use at home. You should use your VPro5 for 5 minutes 1 to 2 times every day. If you decide to use it twice a day, be sure to allow yourself some time between sessions. When you’re ready to use the VPro5, simply set the mouthpiece in your mouth, bite down, and press the power button. A light will flash to indicate the beginning of the session and flash again when the session is done. Then, you simply remove the device from your mouth. It is important that you thoroughly wash your VPro5 mouthpiece after each treatment to ensure proper oral hygiene.

MOPs

Dr. Peterson may recommend a MOPs procedure with the Propel Excellerator  if you have an open bite, crossbite, a deep bite, crowded teeth, or large gaps between your teeth. During your initial orthodontic consultation, he will discuss adding the Propel Excellerator to your regular treatment to move your teeth faster.

The Propel Excellerator creates manual micro-osteoperforations, also called dental dimples, which stimulate blood flow and cytokines to the treated area to help bone remodeling and tooth movement. The Propel Excellerator works with braces and clear aligners, shortens treatment time, and helps reduce discomfort.

Your MOPs treatment will be performed during your regular appointment. First, Dr. Peterson will have you rinse your mouth with chlorhexidine (an antiseptic). Once your mouth is clean and prepared, Dr. Peterson will use the Excellerator to create dental dimples at the appropriate depth. The process should only take a few minutes. A single treatment with Propel Excellerator is usually enough for most patients; however, some patients may need multiple treatments.
