What to Expect with the
iTero 3D Scanner
Dr. Peterson uses the iTero digital scanner to make 3D impressions for custom restorations, such as crowns, bridges, dentures, or clear aligners (like Invisalign®). 3D impressions are excellent for creating precise digital models of your teeth that can then be sent directly to a dental laboratory or our in-office CEREC machine.
During the procedure, you will sit in the treatment chair while Dr. Peterson or his assistant passes the small iTero scanning wand around your mouth. This tool uses blue wavelength light to precisely capture all areas, corners, and crevices of your teeth.
After the scanning is done, a 3D image of your teeth appears on the monitor. If any areas were missed during the initial scan, they can quicky and easily be rescanned, as opposed when using a dental mold, which would require the entire process to be repeated until successful.
Once your digital scans have been completed, they will be sent to a dental lab or our in-office CEREC machine as the basis for creating your restoration or orthodontic device. Dr. Peterson will keep your scans with your file for future reference and as part of your oral health record. This will make it easier if you need another restoration or a replacement and to compare changes in your teeth.
